Having now flown business class, I don't know if I could go back to economy for long haul flights. Although as I discovered, there are different types of business class. Sydney to Singapore, although with Finnair, was on a British Airways plane. Business class had each seat in its own little pod, and even though I was in awindow seat, the pod had its own access so that I didn;t have to disturb the person beside me. Each adjoing seat faces opposite direction, so I was facing the back of the plane, although the pods mean you have privacy. Plenty of leg room, the seat converts to a flat bed, and great service with plenty of food, drink, and movies. Also, use of the QANTAS business lounge before the flight. Left Sydney 3:30 Sydney time and got into Singapore 9:30pm their time.
It was great flying over the Singapore Strait at night and seeing literall hundredsof ships at anchor with deck lights ablaze.
Was at Singapore for 2 hours, so didn;t get a chance to use the Business lounge. Had a Finnair plane from Singapore to Helsinki, and whilst the seat had plenty of leg room, and converted to a flat bed, there were no individual pods, and no privacy. Plenty of food and drink if wanted. After a midnight meal, and a movie, I settled down to bed for the rest of the flight. After a late breakfast, got into Helsinki at 6:20 their time. Used the Business lounge during my wait, then boarded another Finnair flight at 8:00am for the 3 hour flight to London. This was a 3/3 seating configuaration, although for Business class, the middle seat was left empty. Not much leg room, although I fitted in OK, and the meal was good. No inflight entertainment however.
Didn't see much of Finnland or Helsinki, but the coastline was beautiful with hundreds of islands. The countryside seems to be covered in fur or pine trees, and the houses and settlements I saw from the air all seemed to have trees growing right up the boundary of their yards.
Arrived at London Heathrow at 9:10am London time.
Got to admit, knowing the comforts of business class, I don't dread the long flight home this time.
